「彼が仕事をする慎重さは、私たちを驚かせた」
次の２文が１文になったものと考える。
The care surprised us.
「その慎重さが私たちを驚かせた」
He did his work with care.
「彼は慎重に仕事をした」
with care = carefully「慎重に、念入りに」の意味。
with + 抽象名詞が副詞の意味になることがある。
１文にするとき、care が消えてwith which になる。
このように、前置詞を関係代名詞の前に置くことができる。
先行詞が人なら、with whom となる。
（例）The man is Mr. Smith.
I was talking with him.
The man with whom I was talking is Mr. Smith.
The man whom I was talking with is Mr. Smith.
「私が一緒に話をしていた人はスミスさんです」
前置詞を後に残し、関係詞も省略されるのが普通。
The man I was talking with is Mr. Smith.
また、前置詞＋that とは言えない。
