【解説】
次の文の誤りを訂正しなさい。
× He told me that the train had left a few minutes ago.
○ He told me that the train had left a few minutes before.
「電車は２～３分前に出たと彼は言った」
原則として、ago「今から～前」であり、before 「過去のある時点から～前」となる。
ただし今日言ったことを今日伝えるのであれば、ago でもよい。
時を表す副詞の用法に注意！
just now 「たった今」過去
just「ちょうど、今しがた」現在完了、過去
×I have received your letter just now.
○I have just received your letter.
「私はちょうど今あなたの手紙を受け取ったところです」
nowadays「今日では」＝these days 現在の文で使う。
現在完了では用いない。
lately「最近」＝recently 過去や現在完了の文で使う。
現在形とともに用いない。
×Recently I go to church.
○These days I go to church.
「最近、私は教会に通っています」
